Part-time Communications Assistant/Dispatch
Maintains essential functions of the Campus Safety Main Office and Dispatch Center. Requires an understanding of relevant policies, procedures, and systems utilized by the Campus Safety Department. Must be capable of functioning independently and supervising student workers during 2nd shift operations. Competent, courteous, and composed customer service are essential for this position. This position requires reliable onsite attendance, as the Campus Safety Dispatcher plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of the campus community. Schedule: Mon-Tues 4pm-10pm, Wed 330pm-10pm, Thurs-Fri 4pm-1030pm. This is a part-time, 29 hrs/week, 12 month, on-campus position.
Responsibilities:
- Communications and Operational Support; operates the IWU switchboard and phones, 2-way radio system; receives and services walk-in, phone, and email inquiries and calls-for-service; maintains realtime communication and dispatches officers, communicates internally and with first responders and 3rd parties as needed for service delivery and incident response.
- Service Delivery; issues and replaces IDs; implements ID processes for student move-ins; issues and tracks parking passes and visitor passes, distributes keys and maintains key inventories, administers lost & found, maintains service logs
- Office administration; Maintains records and logs of Campus Safety calls and operations, monitors event and activity schedules, may coordinate electronic access control settings and schedules; runs motor vehicle record checks, maintains records for IWU vehicle safety program.
- Security and Emergency Response Support; monitors camera, phone, and access control systems as needed; remotely supports officers. Makes appropriate contacts for after-hours incident response. Logs and tracks Campus Safety Department activities; facilitates communication between Campus Safety, other IWU Departments, public first responders, and external partners.
Requirements:
- High school diploma/GED is required
- One year of professional experience in a dispatch center, operations center, call center, or other position involving communication, coordination, dispatch services, or similar operations, is required.
- Clear verbal communication, patience, and professionalism in delivering service to a diverse campus community. Experience with (or demonstrated ability to learn) the operation of telephone switchboards, access control software, and similar technical systems, are essential qualities for this position.
- Independent motivation and time management skills are necessary in this role. Ability to maintain a regular on-campus shift schedule is essential to maintaining continuity of Campus Safety services.
- Shift Schedule: Mon-Tues 400pm-1000pm, Wed 330pm-1000pm, Thurs-Fri 4pm to 1030pm, with 30 minute breaks for all shifts. Occasional flex-scheduling is offered to cover special events outside of this schedule.
- Physical demands: Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
