Early Arrivals
Please log in to your MyHousing portal and complete the "Application" for Early Arrival.
Some students may need to return to campus before their scheduled Fall 2025 move-in dates:
-
August 20 for first-year students
-
August 21 for incoming transfer students
-
August 23 or 24 for returning upper-division students
The Office of Residential Life does its best to accommodate early arrival requests whenever possible. If you need to arrive early, please visit your MyHousing portal, navigate to "Applications", and complete the "Early Arrival" application.
Please note:
-
If your arrival falls outside the approved timeframe for a university-sponsored activity, a standard early arrival fee of $50 per night will apply. Charges begin when either the student or their belongings occupy the space.
-
The maximum early arrival charge is $358.
To help us coordinate with Physical Plant, Conference Services, and other campus departments, please submit your early arrival request at least 10 business days before your intended arrival. Requests submitted with less notice may not be accommodated. If approved, short-notice requests may result in rooms that are not fully cleaned or prepared to standard move-in expectations.
Meals are generally not provided for students who choose to arrive early. However, arrangements may be made for those participating in university-sponsored programs, such as athletics or Turning Titan staff.
Specific Guidelines by Category
Summer Housing
Students residing in summer housing transition to their fall assignments in early
August, in accordance with summer housing guidelines. The early arrival fee is already
included in the summer housing cost.
Academic Commitments
Students returning for an academic commitment—such as orientation, a musical or theatre
rehearsal or performance, student teaching, or any other required curricular activity—may
arrive one day before their commitment begins.
Campus Employment
Students who are beginning full-time campus work may arrive without charge during the week leading up to the start of classes. Early arrival fees will be waived starting the day before the work commitment begins, but no earlier than August 20. Students whose work begins before August 20 will be incorporated into the summer
housing program and charged accordingly.
Athletics
Fall sport athletes may arrive as instructed by their coaching staff, typically on the day of or the day before the team’s first scheduled practice.
Significant Travel Distance
Students living more than 450 miles from campus may request to arrive one day early to support family travel logistics.
Students returning from outside the U.S. may arrive up to five days early to account for international travel and minimize jet lag. Travel itineraries or ticket
stubs may be requested to verify travel before waiving charges.
Student Organization Leaders
Leaders of Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) may arrive beginning August 20 with advisor approval. The advisor must submit a request to ORL on their behalf.
Each organization will be charged the appropriate early arrival fee, and it’s recommended
that groups plan for this cost in their annual budgets.
If you have questions about the process or your eligibility, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to help!
